Silence it, conserve water, and get it checked
A beeping septic alarm and a red light usually mean the water level in your pump chamber is too high. That's common on the Treasure Coast, where many systems pump effluent up to a mounded drainfield.
Do this now
- Press the silence button. The light may stay on.
- Check the pump's breaker; reset once if tripped.
- Stop using water as much as possible.
- If the alarm clears and comes back, call for service.
Common causes
- Failed pump or float
- Tripped breaker or electrical issue
- Heavy rain flooding the system
- Clogged effluent filter
- A failing drainfield that can't accept water
When it's urgent
If sewage is backing into the house or surfacing in the yard, call for emergency service and avoid contact with wastewater.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I keep using water if the alarm is on?
Use as little as possible; the chamber's reserve is limited.
Why does my alarm go off after heavy rain?
Groundwater can enter the tank or saturate the drainfield. If it happens often, have the system evaluated.
